Every Ecogenesys member has received an individual report, providing verified insight into their organisation’s net carbon saving from their share of electrical recycling activities throughout the year (2024).
This is the first year that Ecogenesys members have received their own individual carbon impact reports. Each report provides members with their proportion of Ecogenesys’ waste electrical recycling activities in 2024, calculated using the Ecogenesys carbon model, which has been peer-reviewed to ISO 14044 standards, the international benchmark for environmental Life Cycle Assessment.
This milestone is an exciting step forward in helping our members understand, communicate and celebrate their contribution to reducing emissions through responsible end-of-life recycling of electrical and electronic equipment.
Launch of the Ecogenesys Carbon Impact Report
Commenting on the roll out of the reports to each member, Abs Bokhari, Executive Chairman of Ecogenesys, added:
“The launch of the first Ecogenesys Carbon Impact Report marks an important milestone for our producer members. For the first time, our members have access to clear, quantifiable insights into the environmental impact of the end-of-life electrical recycling that they fund.
“Our ISO 14044 peer-reviewed carbon model provides members with reliable, measurable data. This report enables our members to quantify and communicate the sustainability benefit of electrical recycling.
“It’s a proud moment for Ecogenesys and our members, demonstrating how our commitment to responsible recycling delivers real, measurable progress towards a lower-carbon future.”
Understanding your Ecogenesys Carbon Impact Report
By combining data from transport operators, treatment facilities and recognised databases, the Ecogenesys model calculates both:
- Emissions generated through transport and processing
- Emissions avoided through recycling outputs and energy recovery
The model is peer-reviewed to ISO 14044, the international Life Cycle Assessment standard, ensuring every figure is robust, reliable and credible.
Why the Carbon Impact Report Matters
This report importantly demonstrates that the environmental impact of recycling waste electricals – overall, has a positive environmental and sustainability benefit. The carbon impact report matters because it quantifies these real-world benefits, highlighting how responsible recycling contributes to carbon reduction and resource efficiency.
When end-of-life electricals are recovered and processed, valuable metals, plastics and components are made available to manufacturers. This recovery of secondary raw materials reduces the reliance on virgin materials and associated emissions, helping to close the loop on resource use and making every tonne recycled a part of a sustainable circular economy.
The result? A measurable net carbon saving that captures the environmental value achieved through member participation in the Ecogenesys scheme.

What the Ecogenesys Carbon Impact Report 2024 means for Members
The Ecogenesys Carbon Impact Report 2024 is far more than just a number – it’s a communications tool and educational asset. Each report has been issued with a detailed illustration of the end-of-life process for recycling electrical waste streams and allows members to:
- Quantify their climate benefit through transparent, credible data
- Enhance ESG and sustainability reporting with verified CO₂e figure
- Communicate environmental leadership to their customers, stakeholders and teams
- Engage internal audiences through evidence-based sustainability storytelling
Member perspective
Teresa Arbuckle, Regional Managing Director, Beko UK & Ireland commented:
“Ecogenesys’ work showcases how a continued focus on operational efficiency, maximising recycling and high-quality outputs as well as strong partnerships, can deliver a positive measurable environmental impact. As a founding member and continuing to hold a Board position, Beko has always encouraged Ecogenesys to show the benefits that responsible recycling brings, which this report clearly demonstrates.”
